Times Picayune: FEMA administrator says just because a home never flooded doesn't mean it isn't a flood risk
"Our work is far from over to build a better flood insurance program that we can live with, grow with and prosper with," Landrieu said. "This cannot -- and will not -- happen until we have accurate and reliable flood maps. FEMA's flood maps are the foundation of our local, state and national approach to floodplain management, yet only 52 percent of our nation's flood maps are certified as accurate and up-to-date under the current program. That is unacceptable."

Congressional Quarterly: Taking Aim At Feral Pigs
Earlier this month, Landrieu wrote to Cindy Dohner, the Fish and Wildlife Service’s southeastern regional director, to complain about restrictions limiting swine hunting to just a few months a year on wildlife refuges in her state of Louisiana and to ask Dohner to expand the swine-hunting season. Landrieu said feral hogs had caused $1.5 billion in damage across the Southeast last year and that in Louisiana, hunters needed to kill 260,000 more hogs each year, in addition to the 161,000 killed now, to keep the population of 500,000 in check.

The Advocate: Sen. Landrieu to FEMA: Make sure flood insurance customers get refunds
“Hardworking middle-class families should not have to pay flood insurance rates based on inaccurate and flawed maps that fail to recognize the levees that have protected their communities for decades,” Landrieu said. “That’s why I will lead the effort to reverse the president’s $11 million cut to FEMA’s program that corrects out-of-date and flawed maps. And next month, I will use the full power of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to hold FEMA accountable for implementing this law correctly and efficiently and give Louisiana a seat at the table as we work toward building a stronger program.”

Marine Link: Landrieu Secures OMB Commitment to Meet With LA Port
“Administration after administration fails to understand the importance of investing in our nation’s water infrastructure. The President’s anemic $4.6 billion proposal is the smallest percentage of the federal budget in the 200-plus-year history of the Army Corps of Engineers. Stronger levees, deeper ports and better-dredged rivers mean more jobs. This change in leadership is an opportunity to educate the Administration about the economic muscle that these ports and waterways generate for the nation," said Sen. Landrieu.
